Warehouse Remodel

Brief:

Clients are first home owners in their 20’s, wishing to create a space that enhances creativity through the use of colour and textures. They are both design professionals in Sydney and require the incorporation of a studio area as part of the warehouse remodel. Their needs are as follows:

  • Space to host guests, friends and family

  • Mix of dark and light tones to work for each occupant's personal style

  • Soft and restful living spaces

Software Used:

AutoCAD

Microsoft Excel

InDesign

Photoshop

Concept:

The existing warehouse offers a large open space to build a home filled with colour and personality. The project consisted largely of material and furniture selections for the clients, and no structural changes were made. An overall palette of blues, blacks and creamy whites of different textures fill the wall and floor finishes across both the bathroom and bedroom spaces. The joinery section features Touches of timber throughout, warming each space to create contrasting texture and enhancing interest.

Two back-to-back living areas greet the entrance of the home. A formal seating area divides the entrance and a large custom joinery shelving unit. Colourful artwork and furniture create interest in the formal seating area, elevating the youth and intrigue throughout.  The main living space creates a comfortable relaxation space with the light furniture contrasting against black wooden side tables and a concrete rendered fireplace wall.

Remaining materiality in the kitchen and dining area of the home features dark cabinetry offset by white marble benchtops and a backsplash. Brass tapware and kit kat backsplash tiles enhance the overall industrial feel of the warehouse space, complete with timber and black metal furnishings throughout the dining area.

A central courtyard marries all spaces together to allow natural light to flow between each space, inviting the occupant with soft and restful living features. The final design focus on the studio included the incorporation of a large central desk with bright pops of colour to offer sources of bright inspiration.

The outcome of this warehouse enhancement offered a mix of colours, textures and tones to suit both clients' design styles and the young and fun aesthetic the clients were looking for with this redesign.
