Concept:

The picturesque location of the Drakensberge in South Africa offered a perfect backdrop for a light filled and minimalist home. Taking inspiration from Mies van der Rohe’s ‘Farnsworth House’, a large open plan living area connects seamlessly to the adjoining courtyard and pool house with custom glass panels.

The materiality throughout the home remains simple, consisting of artisanal and organic textures such as concrete floors, marble and timber to give life to the space.

A leafy central courtyard offers a distinct separation between the living and entertainment areas of the house from the master suite and adjoined writing studio. The entire facade of the house features floor to ceiling windows, which creates unique outlooks of the Drakensberge mountain range from every space in the home.

The final outcome was a scenic hideaway with ample natural light and a panoramic 360 degree view of landscapes to inspire and allow the imagination to wander to the heart's desire.
