Concept:

The design vision for the adjoining apartments was to create a soft and minimalist haven for our clients and their guests to escape from reality. Spatial planning was carefully considered to ensure that the main living areas and bedrooms are located by the windows surrounding the outermost facade of the apartments. This enabled both the bedroom and living spaces to celebrate the spectacular views that overlook Sydney’s wharf, allowing the apartments to flood with natural light.

An integrated connection to join both apartments was achieved by creating movable joinery surrounding a central double-sided fireplace. The bookshelves were custom created to gently slide open to enable multifunctionality by enabling the moveable element to be utilised as storage as well as a design element itself when open or closed.

The apartment ‘shells’ featured angular floorpoints, and in order to soften them, the majority of the apartments feature curved walls and joinery. The curvature of the walls became an artistic aspect, particularly in the formal dining area of the larger apartment where a rippling wall metaphorically links wave-like forms; futher celebrating the coastal location of this structure.

A beautiful monochromatic palette filled with organic textures inspired the materiality of the apartments. Warm white oak timbers across flooring and joinery complements the tones in travertine stone benchtops and backsplashes while rendered micro-cement walls bring a sandy tone and texture into the space.
