Paddington Terrace

Brief:

Clients, a married couple in their 30’s, requested the renovation to make better use of the basement, ground and first levels of the terrace as well as creating an extension into the attic space. Two living and entertainment spaces were requested to link to the outdoor area, with the inclusion of a guest bedroom and study.

Concept:

Paddington House offers the opportunity to create an inviting home around the restrictions of classic Sydney terrace housing. The design process began with creating demolition plans for the existing basement, ground and first floors of the house. Starting with the basement design, a concealed European laundry is placed by the base of the stairs for ease of access. A comfortably sized theatre and entertainment area fills the basement to seamlessly connect to an improved outdoor deck.

Ground level hosts the main living area of the home with an open plan kitchen and formal dining. The staircases are renovated to increase light flow throughout the home, with clear thickened glass risers and creamy white oak treads matching the new flooring laid throughout the home.

Access to a generous and light filled study connecting to the existing terrace balcony greets you as you step onto the first floor. The master bedroom features a wall of custom made joinery offering ample storage and wardrobe space.

The extension to the attic offers an additional bedroom space, allowing the clients to host a private living space for friends and family. A generous ensuite features both a large walk in shower and bathtub, with an overhead skylight that allows light to flood into the space. A soft and feminine material palette complements the light filled space, with warm toned marble, timbers, creams and champagne fixtures for a luxurious and elegant feel.
